Ragdoll Vs. Cherubim

Ragdolls and Cherubims are extremely similar. So similar in fact they used to be the same breed!
The story of Cherubim cats begins with one of the most popular cat breed the Ragdoll in the 1960s. Ann Baker, who is known for creating Ragdoll cats, had a broader vision that included several distinct breeding lines. While most cat lovers are familiar with the blue-eyed pointed Ragdolls, she was simultaneously developing what would become Cherubim cats. These cats were so special to Baker that she included “Registrar of Cherubim Cats” on every original IRCA Ragdoll registration.

The Cherubim journey reached an exciting milestone in 2024 when TICA officially welcomed them into the Ragdoll Breed Group. This recognition preserves their important connection to Ragdolls while celebrating their unique features – particularly their stunning mink, sepia and solid colors.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

So what exactly makes Ragdolls and Cherubims different you may ask... Well what sets them apart from one another is Cherubims have a variety of colors and patterns along with beautiful aqua eyes, whereas Ragdolls have the most stunning "traditional" look with the most beautiful deep blue eyes.
Lets talk about Appearance...
Ragdolls and Cherubims share many similar features, some of those being their semi-long beautiful plush coat. They can come in a variety of patterns and colors. They share the similar patterns of bicolor, pointed, mitted, lynx and tortie. They also share similar colors. Those colors being seal, blue, lilac, chocolate, flame, cream, cinnamon and fawn. While they share some very similar features there are also a few differences!

Ragdolls:
Ragdolls have beautiful blue eyes and a semi-long plush coat which can come in different patterns (bicolor, van, tortie, mitted, pointed and lynx), and the pattern further comes in different colors (seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream).
Ragdoll’s fur is a remarkable feature of this cat breed. It is extremely plush and soft. Ragdolls develop slowly and hit maturity at around 4 years. Unlike Cherubim cats, Ragdolls are exclusively pointed cats. They have a darker pigment on their ears, tail, face, and legs and the rest of the body is lighter.
Ragdoll body type is substantially large, with males typically larger than females. The head is broad and wedge-shaped, with rounded contours, medium-sized ears, full cheeks, and oval-shaped eyes.
Cherubim:
Cherubim have beautiful blue, green, aqua, odd-eye and amber-gold eyes and a semi-long plush coat which can come in some different coat patterns (sepia, mink and solid), and the pattern further comes in different colors (seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream).

HEALTH
Both Ragdoll and Cherubim are generally very healthy breeds. But like all cats they may be prone to certain genetic health issues. The most common disease in both breeds is HCM which is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is very common is every single breed of cat and not just pedigreed kitties are prone to this. This is why here at PurrCozi Kitties we are extremely diligent with health testing! Every single one of our cats are HCM negative and come from extremely healthy lines that are also negative for HCM!
